TGC Hair Extensions - Shedding & Nape Care

Shedding & Maintenance

Just like your natural hair, all hair extensions will experience light shedding over time. Shedding is completely normal and can occur during washing, detangling, styling, and everyday wear.

Proper maintenance plays a major role in preserving the longevity and fullness of your extensions.

How to Minimize Shedding

  • Always detangle hair gently from ends to roots using a detangling brush.
  • Never run your fingers through the hair while it is dry, especially curly and coily textures, as this can disrupt the curl pattern and increase shedding.
  • Keep the hair moisturized and properly conditioned.
  • Wash and deep condition the hair regularly to prevent excessive tangling and matting.
  • Avoid excessive pulling, brushing, or rough handling.
  • Detangle curly and coily textures while damp and conditioned whenever possible.
  • With proper care, your extensions can remain beautiful, full, and wearable for 3–7 years.

Nape Care

The nape is the area located at the very bottom of the hair extension near the neckline. Because this section experiences the most friction from clothing, jackets, scarves, and everyday movement, it may become dry, tangled, or frizzy faster than the rest of the hair.

How to Care for the Nape

  • Regularly inspect and detangle the nape area to prevent knots from forming.
  • Apply a small amount of lightweight jojoba oil to the nape as needed to help maintain softness and reduce friction.
  • Avoid over-applying heavy oils or products that may cause buildup.
  • If wearing longer lengths, consider loosely braiding or securing the hair before sleeping.
  • Use a satin bonnet, scarf, or pillowcase to minimize friction and preserve the hair's condition.
